Mowing around a cable

well look at that, another mowing the lawn post. Well it's been over a week, and it needs to be done. thanks to the complete lack of rain for nearly a month, it hasn't grown much.

However, I get a new wrinkle in this. I have had isssues with my cable in my basement since I moved in. Many of my high level channels refuse to come in clear. So we've had tech's come by and look at the problem. they told my wife we'll need a new line into the basement, that's all. Great.

Well, not so great. Apparently we needed a cable that was capable of sending a stronger signal to the house. That's fine, I just wish they told me about it.

I was expecting a tech to come by and place a new line from the box to my basement. Imagine my surprise when 2 guys come in with a Ditch Witch. They were gracious and listened to me, but I did not let them dig up my back yard because I was told all I needed was a line from the box to the basement.

Well, I called the cable company to inquire, and they told me they had both scheduled. Well, again, it would have been nice to know. The tech guy came and did exactly what they said he was to do, and explained to me very well why the new cable was needed.

Great, and the signal is perfect. Now the fun part.

Since I shooed them away, they cannot come back for another 3 weeks. So, I have to find a way to mow around approx 100ft of cable in my backyard, lying on the ground, without running over it.

It's probably easy, and I might be making a mountain out of a molehile, it's just an inconvenience that I wish I didn't have to incur (how's that for a Scrabble word?).

It's Beautiful!

My stepfather, bless his soul, built me a cabinet because I asked for one on this big empty wall in my kitchen. Little did I know the amount of work and detail that it would require. It took him about a month to finish, and 2 days to install it, but it's now in. The thing is GORGEOUS! and even better, it looks like it should have always been there.

I've now been able to unload 3 more boxes, and I STILL HAVE ROOM IN THE CABINET! This is more than I can handle.. I have room for stuff!

Shawn took pictures of it on his digital camera, I'll post a pic whenever I get it.

Ultrasound day postponed

Doctor decided that 4 hours before the scheduled appointment was a good time to reschedule. Reasons last night on the answering machine was that the Tech who performs the ultrasound wanted to leave early, and today my wife got "it's too early, you're only 6 weeks in [note: they told us 5 weeks 3 weeks ago, so we'd be in week 8] and the Doctor's vacation was cancelled, we don't like doing it this early, yadda yadda...

I know, writing in anger is not good, as this could come back to haunt me, but I am rightfully annoyed at them. If they called her yesterday, I'd have been frustrated, but at least okay with it by now.... not 4 hours before the appointment.

Well, Cest la vie. What's done is done. I'll get to see my little peanut next Tuesday instead of today.

and a note for anyone reading: it's common courtesy to give someone at least 24 hours notice on a cancellation, dire emergencies excluded.

Ultrasound day

Today's the day we go in to see our child for the first time. Granted, I'll probably have to just take the tech's word for it, and realize it's the size of a peanut, with looks to match, but still. I hope to hear the heartbeat, that'll be neat.

Then after that fun and games... it's time to *Dramatic music* Mow and trim the lawn. My life is monotonous when it comes to yardwork, seems it's all I do anymore.

Oh well, Our kitchen cabinet is ready for install this coming weekend. SO after that we'll empty more boxes, hopefully making a dent in the baby's room.

When will the house chores end?

What I hoped to be a 3 day project has turned into 3 weekends. The deck has one full coat on, but it rained on Sunday leaving me to put the second coat on the floor and touchups till this weekend.

This weekend is now quite full, as we need to clean the house, finish the deck, AND

*Trumpet Fanfare*
My cabinet's done!

Our kitchen is rather open, but not big on storage space, so I asked my Stepfather, who's taken up woodworking in retirement, to make a cabinet on a big open wall. It'll be six feet long, with 4 drawers, 2 really neat pull out drawers and the bottom is for large storage. Mom says it's the most beautiful piece he's done. I'm looking forward to installing it.

Installing it entails me pulling the baseshoe off and the floortrim, ALSo moving an outlet up to keep it from being hidden by the cabinet. We're going to add a cable outlet in there, so we can watch TV whilst making dinner. Sounds full.

- In other news -

My wife's close friends Katie and Kay have been vying for the coveted "Favorite Aunt" position with my yet unborn child. So far both are promising, but Kay upped the ante by sending in a Resume. Yes a Resume with Cover letter, references, the whole nine yards. This will have to go in a scrapbook somewhere.
