Warning: Political Post ahead

So, Congress listened to America and didn't pass the bail out plan. Democrats who were for it blame Republicans, or they blame the lack of help for the middle class homeowner. Republicans blame Nancy Pelosi's dig at Bush before the vote (which, honestly wasn't needed and a petty partisan attack on her part, but it's also petty to switch a vote, because the Speaker couldn't hold her tounge).

Personally, I'm glad. This bailout did not sit well with me, can't put my finger on why exactly but it was enough of a concern that it shouldn't have gone through. Also, I heard a congressman say Congress was not designed to rush through legislation. This is so true. Gloom and Doom speeches aside, Congress should take a long look at what they're trying to accomplish.

Now that all being said, are we facing the Second Great Depression, or is this just a bunch of panicked CEO's trying to find a way out of their greed? I personally can't tell.

My grandmother has been saying for a couple years now we've moved beyond Recession. She lived through the Great Depression, so I would take her words more than any politican, afraid to utter even the word Recession as it makes their constituents angry. So according to her, we've pretty much been in a Depression, just refuse to admit it.

I have no solutions. I'm a bit for letting the companies go under, as punishment for their greed. I'm also fine with homeowners who went well beyond their means and knew it loose their house. Of course, there's those that didn't go beyond their means and are suffering, so I can't be that cold.

Fiscally speaking, I'm with the Republicans in thinking that the Government should not really get involved. That's tempered with the Democrat side of adding some of the oversight that had been removed in the past 10-12 years.

Well that's my rambling for now. On a lighter note, I bought Lego Star Wars II (the original trilogy) for my PC and it's a fun and cute game.

I've moved

Offices. Partially. I'm on a new project and as such they want us all in one area for synergistic purposes. There's still people here from the first installment, so we're not all settled. I'm in a temp office until the new layout is finalized.

Anywhoo, it's on the other side of the complex, and it has windows. Big honking windows that I can actually see out of. Also, I have 5' cube walls rather than the 4'.

It's also way quiet over here, and I'm not sure if that's due to the 5' cubicals or the majority of people are on vacation. only time will tell.

Jiffy Lube sponsors Super Bowl III

So I went to get my oil changed last week, skimming through some yellow magazine named OK when one fella turned to another and said
"Is your name Bobby"
"Yes sir, it is"
"Bobby Bell"
"Yes, was it my beard that gave it away?"
"No it was that ring"

So I turn to see this ring he talks of. It's resting on the pinky of a very tall and elegant man with a graying beard. This ring was ENORMOUS. It would have enveloped my pinky finger, but covered the last segment of his. I cannot describe how big this ring was... it was Super Bowl Ring Sized. With a Red gem in the top. By this time, I surmized that this man played for the Chiefs, at least around Super Bowl III, the last time we were at the bowl, and the only we won.

Sure enough, he was one of the original Chiefs, brought up here as a dallas Texan when Lamar Hunt moved them to KC and created the AFL.

Mr. Bell was a great story teller too. We got him to talk about the original days of football. He didn't talk about the game much as the people that played it.
Highlights:
1) The first game they played in KC had maybe 100-200 fans in the stadium. Coach Straham told them after the game to go up to the stands and thank them all, which they did.
2)The Raiders/Chiefs played 4 times the year we won the super bowl, they beat us the first 3. That last time was right before playoffs, and they were so confident, they brought their suitcases with them to the game so they could go straight to New Orleans afterwards. After the game, the coach told the bus driver NOT to move. They parked near the door the Raiders had to come out of (they waited a long time, hoping the Chiefs would have left by then) to give some good natured ribbing when they left.
3) Chiefs/Radiers rivalry is mostly fan made. ON the field he said it was a game, and it was on, but these were friends of his and he used to go to dinner with them. If a fan caught him out to dinner... with a RAIDER... they'd act betrayed.
4) Always someone talking about someone's momma :)

It was a real treat to listen to him.

Deep Fried OREOS and still overgrown lawn.

Back from the Fair. Found that Deep Fried Oreos aren't that bad, whereas beer battered deep fried Cheese curds kinda are. Couldn't mow when I returned, the lawn was still damp and all I would have accomplished would have been clogging the mower. Then it decided to storm all night and be overcast the rest of the day, thus delaying my lawn mowing until probably this weekend, where I will most definitly have to bag... yeech.

The fair wasn't bad, wet, but not bad. We stayed in the buildings mainly until the rain let up enough to wander around the midway. Little one was a trooper and walked some of the way. She believes both hands have to be held, and won't stop whining to me, my wife, or Daina until that extra hand is held. She zoned badly around 2:45, where I gently pushed her back in the stroller, telling her it was okay to take a nap, which I guess she did 10 seconds after that. She got a powercat temp tatoo on her cheek, my wife got her roasted ear of corn, and her Grandparents got to visit with my talkative, walkative daughter.

Deep Fried Twinkie and overgrown lawn

We're heading to the KS State Fair this weekend and I'm leaving behind a crabgrass riddled lawn that I cannot mow due to one front from the Rockies and the remnants of Hurricane Gustav. Here's hoping that when I return I'll have enough energy left to mow it, and it'll be dry/short enough to mow w/o bagging.
