Jiffy Lube sponsors Super Bowl III

So I went to get my oil changed last week, skimming through some yellow magazine named OK when one fella turned to another and said
"Is your name Bobby"
"Yes sir, it is"
"Bobby Bell"
"Yes, was it my beard that gave it away?"
"No it was that ring"

So I turn to see this ring he talks of. It's resting on the pinky of a very tall and elegant man with a graying beard. This ring was ENORMOUS. It would have enveloped my pinky finger, but covered the last segment of his. I cannot describe how big this ring was... it was Super Bowl Ring Sized. With a Red gem in the top. By this time, I surmized that this man played for the Chiefs, at least around Super Bowl III, the last time we were at the bowl, and the only we won.

Sure enough, he was one of the original Chiefs, brought up here as a dallas Texan when Lamar Hunt moved them to KC and created the AFL.

Mr. Bell was a great story teller too. We got him to talk about the original days of football. He didn't talk about the game much as the people that played it.
Highlights:
1) The first game they played in KC had maybe 100-200 fans in the stadium. Coach Straham told them after the game to go up to the stands and thank them all, which they did.
2)The Raiders/Chiefs played 4 times the year we won the super bowl, they beat us the first 3. That last time was right before playoffs, and they were so confident, they brought their suitcases with them to the game so they could go straight to New Orleans afterwards. After the game, the coach told the bus driver NOT to move. They parked near the door the Raiders had to come out of (they waited a long time, hoping the Chiefs would have left by then) to give some good natured ribbing when they left.
3) Chiefs/Radiers rivalry is mostly fan made. ON the field he said it was a game, and it was on, but these were friends of his and he used to go to dinner with them. If a fan caught him out to dinner... with a RAIDER... they'd act betrayed.
4) Always someone talking about someone's momma :)

It was a real treat to listen to him.
