Cold weekend

Started out okay I guess, we got (and by we, I mean Sara) the house ready for Nora to learn the potty. Unfortunately, no one told Nora. We tried for pretty much the whole morning to get her to check if she was dry and use the potty. She loved having Pooh go pee, but Nora was still content to wet herself. She even told Mom that she was dry when it was obvious she wasn't. So, Nora's not ready, we'll regroup and try again in a few months.

Mowed the lawn, perhaps for the last time. Next time will just be to vaccuum up the leaves, whenever those bad boys fall.

I still have 20/20 vision, but apparently am starting to suffer from C.U.S. or Computer User Syndrome. Summary: Blink more, get up for 10 min every hour.

Bob Evans makes a good Pumpkin Pie, but careful when they serve it to you... it's hot.

Potty training postponement

Well, possibly. Nora's got either pretty bad allergies or a fledgling cold. Runny nose, croupy cough, and if she's that out of it come Saturday, we'll postpone again. Yes, she's pretty much ready, but she's still under 2 years and so far every time I've plopped her down on the potty she's not done much. I think when she tells me "potty" she's already done it.

Oh well, if that doesn't happen, then we switch to loading the attic. That was supposed to be this weekend, but a couple of headaches and an afternoon nap threw that out the window.

Lawn's slowing down, and the leaves are dropping, now I debate on either mowing now, or waiting until all the leaves are down to vaccuum them up.

Someone have some extra motivation for us we could borrow?

My car ride home with my daughter

When I pick Nora up from our babysitter, at least for the past 2 weeks this is our conversation:

Nora: DADDY!
Me: What-ee?
Nora Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Me: Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Nora: DADDY!
Me: What-ee?
Nora: Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Me: Bzz
Nora: DADDY DAAAAADY!
Me: What-ee?
Nora: Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (no response from me) DADDY! Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This continues until I stop to get the mail.

and on a sappy note: I have discovered that, as nervous or unsure you may be at becoming a parent, it's all worthwhile when your kids will walk over to you, smile and say "Hi daddy!"

Missouri Town 1855

This little treasure is not to far from where I live, and this weekend was the Fall Festival. My mom called wanting to visit her granddaughter (not me mind you, her son, but her granddaughter :)) and suggested that. Sara agreed and we went. This is how I remember Missouri Town. Turns out that Mom specifically went to this mostly when there was a festival going on. the rest of the time it's just empty and quiet. Peaceful, but quiet.

This time they had the blacksmith running, all the houses were open and you would wander into them (Side note: all the houses in Missouri town were pulled from various parts of the state, and all from around the mid 1800s, one in particular (the lawyer's house, comes from a town I have roots from, Marysville).

Anyway, the food was delicious (Bratwurst, corn on the cob, and apple cobbler made in a Cast Iron dutch oven) and the crafts were neat (making rope, soap, quilting, yarn, etc) and the houses were always fun to visit.

Now onto Nora. Since it was active she could see more and do more. Her most active things? Looking at the chickens (Mommy-daddy Chickens Hi Chickens Bawk Bawk Bawk) and petting the Ox (to here it was a cow) and looking at the mules (which to her was Horses)

Only downside was a woman, who after my daughter pointed to her dog and said "puppy" to which we agreed, snipped at us saying it was a "service dog that was 6.5 years old". Well la-dee-flippin-da. My dog is 8 and she still calls her a Puppy.. well she calls her Tootsie but still....

Regardless, we had a wonderful time and tuckered poor Nora out. I've never really seen my daughter, who's fighting for any and all independence of the stroller, ask me to put her in it. :)

This coming weekend is Ren Fest Part III: The Final for the Year. Just turns out October is a busy month for us.
